Do You Qualify?

This is an unsupported service, so we ask that you know the basics of how virtual hosts work. Essentially, you'll need:

a machine (any operating system) with a fixed IP address (recommended), although you can set yourself up with a dynamic DNS service (such as dyndns.org, for example) and have your requested hostname be a CNAME that points to your dyndns.org (or equivalent) hostname;
the (relatively basic) knowledge of how to handle your end of the configuration; and
optionally, control over the reverse DNS for that IP address, or access to someone who has it (unless you want forward resolution only).

Once again, this is an unsupported service, which means we do not provide technical support. If you're not sure how virtual hosts work, you may be better off passing on this until you do.

One more thing: This is not a bounce service for IRC clients. You can IRC with your virtual host, but only if you are in control of the reverse DNS for the block containing your address.

Please check to see if the hostname(s) you want is available; the UNIX "host" or "nslookup" commands are easy ways to do this. Similar tools are available for Windows and Mac OS (which is UNIX now), and there are numerous websites that offer web front-ends for these tools.

One side note we've been forced to add: Do not request any virtual hosts if you are binding them to a dynamic IP address and you expect us to change it for you constantly. We simply don't have the time or inclination to modify our zone files every time your ISP provides you a new IP address. Dynamic IP users are encouraged to sign up with a service like dyndns.org and have us point the virtual host to their dyndns.org (or equivalent service) hostname. If you don't understand how to do this, don't bother with a virtual host.

What You Need To Tell Us

the actual name(s) you want (e.g., anyone.with.half.a.brain.knows.that.windows-sucks.com), and
the IP address(es) that you will give to this (these) hostname(s).
